The 2015 NFL Draft will be the first for the front office team of Mike Tannenbaum and Dennis Hickey, and Miami Dolphins fans are wondering just what to expect. Here is a pre-Combine, seven-round mock of what the Dolphins’ strategy could look like.

Round 1: Shaq Thompson (Linebacker, Washington)

Shaq Thompson is the most versatile player in the draft and may very well be the best player on the board when Miami steps to the podium with the No. 14 pick. Thompson is a plug-and-play guy who played linebacker, safety and running back in college. He could immediately strengthen a much-maligned linebacker corps.

Round 2: Mario Edwards, Jr. (Defensive End/Tackle, FSU)

There is the possibility that Jared Odrick is lost in free agency, but even if he stays in Miami, the Dolphins need another piece to help shore up the defensive line. Edwards’ versatility and size make him a highly desired commodity that could be plugged in at defensive tackle or end.

Round 3: Quinten Rollins (Cornerback, Miami-Ohio)

The Miami Dolphins need help at corner, and while not an elite prospect, Quinten Rollins provides good value in the third round. Rollins is unlikely to be able to come in right away, but he has a lot of potential for a “project” type player.

Round 4: Kenny Hilliard (Running Back, LSU)

Kenny Hilliard doesn’t have anything remotely resembling elite speed, but he is a punishing, between the tackles runner. The Dolphins are in serious need of a bruiser to take some of the heat off of Lamar Miller, and Hilliard would be a great value pick in the fourth round.

Round 5: Tyler Lockett (Wide Receiver, Kansas State)

Assuming that Mike Wallace’s untradeable contract keeps him in Miami for the 2015 season, Tyler Lockett would be a perfect complement to a receiving corps that is all but certain to lose Brandon Gibson and Brian Hartline. Lockett has great speed and return skills, in addition to great football instincts, making him amazingly desirable in the middle of the draft.

Round 6: Tevin McDonald (Safety, Eastern Washington)

Tevin McDonald has an amazing football pedigree with his brother T.J. currently playing safety for the St. Louis Rams and his father Tim, a six-time Pro Bowler, now the defensive backs coach for the Buffalo Bills. He has a high football IQ and the physical tools to warrant a sixth-round pick in spite of some off the field issues.

Round 7: Jon Feliciano (Offensive Guard, Miami)

The Dolphins can always use depth on the offensive line, and Jon Feliciano could provide that at guard or tackle. As a local product, the Dolphins have a chance to scout him in their own backyard and see just what kind of development can be expected.
