The Atlanta Falcons head into this offseason with one very obvious hole to fix: pass-rush. While that might be the most prominent need, it’s not the only glaring hole this team has to address. There are some free agents out there who could instantly help the Falcons heading into next season. Here are five players the Falcons would be smart to sign in free agency.

It’s very likely Steven Jackson will be cut this offseason, and that will leave the Falcons in search of a running back. Rumors are going around saying the Falcons have expressed a lot of interest in signing ex-Ravens running back Justin Forsett who’s coming off an impressive season. Forsett would easily be able to plug into the Falcons’ offense and give them a strong running threat.

Roddy White is becoming a dinosaur, so it’s about time the Falcons find another wide receiver to pair along Julio Jones. Enter Torrey “I draw PI calls” Smith. Smith would give the Falcons an extremely explosive partner next to the already explosive Jones which would make the Falcons’ offense so explosive that it might just explode in an explosion of points and yards.

Ever since Hall of Famer and all-around good guy Tony Gonzalez retired, the Falcons have been in search of a tight end to do even half of what Gonzalez was able to do for Matt Ryan and the offense. Cameron, despite his injury history, is a big tight end who could easily come in and make waves down in Atlanta. He would help add a big receiving threat for Ryan, especially in the red zone.

2. LB Brian Orakpo

Now Orakpo would be a bit of a risky signing for two reasons. First, he’s had an injury problem which has kept him out a few seasons in a row, and secondly, he’d have to learn to play defensive end in Dan Quinn’s defense. However, Orakpo has the size to play Leo end in the 4-3 and still possesses the 10-plus sack skills that he flashed early in his career. As a result, the Falcons could get a steal and an elite pass-rusher.

On the other side of Dan Quinn’s defensive line, the Falcons also need a traditional defensive end to pass rush and set the edge. McPhee has done a little bit of everything in his time in Baltimore and could easily play the Michael Bennett role in this Atlanta Falcons’ recreation of the Legion of Boom. They just need a mouthy corner and an “everyone hates us” attitude and the recreation will be complete!
