5 Perfect 2015 NFL Free Agency Moves for Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs are currently about $1.6 million over the NFL salary cap. WR Dwayne Bowe, DE Mike DeVito and QB Chase Daniel now seem to be luxuries the team can't afford. The front office will likely try to trade, restructure, or cut all three of their contracts. Restructures are also in the near future for Tamba Hali and Eric Berry. After some of these moves are made, the Chiefs will be ready to make a splash in free agency.

The Chiefs need to focus on the offensive line. De La Puente is a quality center who has also spent time at guard. He worked mostly as a reserve last season, so he could be an affordable, under-the-radar signing. The only issue is that he'll be tough to wrestle away from the Chicago Bears.

SS Ron Parker reportedly wants $6 million per season, and the Chiefs just can't afford that. If he walks, Branch fits well as a potential replacement. He has played just five games in the last two seasons due to injuries, which is scary, but KC needs that injury discount. He's a solid safety when on the field, and the Chiefs have already scheduled a meeting with him.

The Chiefs are interested in Hartline which makes perfect sense. He's not the most dynamic playmaker, but he's a good replacement for Bowe, should he leave. Hartline's a 6-foot-2, 200-pounder wideout who can block very nicely and he works well as a possession receiver.

2. C Will Montgomery

The Chiefs don't have the money to bring back C Rodney Hudson. At 32, Montgomery may not be in his prime, but he's an experienced starter KC's front office can afford. Snatching a contributor from the Denver Broncos' offense would also be a nice bonus.

Kansas City has already cut Donnie Avery and A.J. Jenkins, while Bowe could be next. Shorts would bring playmaking ability and upside to a receiving corps in the midst of a makeover. Most of the top free-agent receivers previously worked with stronger supporting casts or in more wideout friendly offensive schemes. That's not the case for Shorts. Alex Smith and Andy Reid could easily get more production from him than the Jacksonville Jaguars did.
