Just a season ago, CB Brandon Flowers, known as being one of the most talented defensive backs in the NFL, was surprisingly cut by his club at the time, the Kansas City Chiefs after a poor 2013 campaign. In a brilliant move, the San Diego Chargers decided to stick it to their divisional rival by giving him a shot which paid off in droves as the veteran had a bounce-back season, grading as a top 10 percent talent.

However, we all know how maddeningly cheap the Chargers can be at times as every free agency they appear completely oblivious to reality. Clearly, missing the playoffs in 2014 with essentially the same team as they made it with the season prior struck a nerve, and Flowers was reportedly able to parlay his comeback performance into a four-year deal.

At 29 years old, it’s unlikely that Flowers will play out the entirety of this deal, but it’s fair to assume that he will indeed be with the club for another two seasons. That will be great for Jason Verrett‘s development. Despite his oftentimes unfair reputation, Flowers was actually a very good presence to have around for the rookie in 2014. Add in a healthy Eric Weddle and the Chargers have themselves quite the coverage unit in place once again heading into the 2015 campaign.
