David Ausberry Getty Images 5. David Ausberry Getty Images David Ausberry is a five-year veteran who came over from the Oakland Raiders. Ausberry hasn't put up exciting numbers throughout his career. His best year was 2012 when he racked up a total of 92 yards. Ausberry comes to the Lions probably fighting for the fourth tight end position, if the Lions even keep four tight ends. Eric Ebron and Brandon Pettigrew are locks, and Joseph Fauria is a strong contender as well. Advertisement 4. Jeremy Ross Getty Images Advertisement 4. Jeremy Ross Getty Images The only games where Jeremy Ross really shined were against his former team, the Green Bay Packers. Outside of that, Ross has been inconsistent at best. He has primarily stayed on the team because he has been used in the return game. The Lions now have some other options for returners, and they also brought in veteran Lance Moore to improve their depth at the receiver position. It will be extremely hard for Ross to make this team this year. 3. Dan Orlovsky Getty Images 3. Dan Orlovsky Getty Images Dan Orlovsky will probably head into training camp as the slight favorite to be the backup to Matthew Stafford, but that doesn't mean he should relax at all. Kellen Moore is quickly approaching and threatening to take the top backup spot away from Orlovsky, and it seems like the Lions are planning on Moore to be the future backup. If the Lions decide to only carry two quarterbacks this year, Orlovsky will be the odd man out. 2. Chris Owens Getty Images 2. Chris Owens Getty Images Chris Owens is a seven-year veteran who comes to the Lions after playing one season with the Kansas City Chiefs. Owens comes to the team trying to compete for the nickel position, but he will have some competition as the Lions also brought in veteran Josh Wilson. Between those two players, Wilson is the better option for the Lions. It's hard to see the Lions keeping two smaller corners on the roster, and Owens could be the odd man out. 1. Taylor Mays Getty Images 1. Taylor Mays Getty Images Taylor Mays was a late addition to the Lions as he was signed in late June. The former second-round pick has been pretty disappointing in his career so far. He is a liability in coverage, and if Mays has any shot at making the team, it will be strictly for special teams and certain defensive packages. The Lions seem to be just taking a flier on Mays in hopes of catching some magic. Don't expect Mays to make the team.
