After what seemed like insurmountable odds initially, Tom Brady and the New England Patriots got the news they were waiting for. Brady won his appeal against the NFL and commissioner Roger Goodell, as the judge hearing the case has ruled to overturn the four-game suspension he received for his role in ‘Deflategate.’

This decision comes after numerous failed attempts by both parties to reach a settlement. Brady was reportedly willing to accept the suspension at one point, but refused to admit guilt while doing so, which clearly wasn’t something the NFL offices felt comfortable with.
Now, New England has prevailed, and you better believe we’re going to hear about it.

The NFL can appeal this latest development, which would ultimately send this case back to court. However, doing so would extend the life of this case by another year in all likelihood, which is something that doesn’t seem to be in the league’s best interest at this point, especially considering the unfortunate fact that a fair amount of players will be arrested during the same time period, which’ll make their attempt to take Brady down seem petty after a while.
Make no mistake, though, this ruling in no way clears Brady of any wrong-doing. Most likely, Brady indeed knowingly deflated footballs to gain an advantage, which is terrible. Now, going forward, teams know they can bend the rules as much as they want because they’ll have support in any judicial process, which is a terrible precedent to set.
