Nothing much has gone right for the Houston Texans this season, yet they have still achieved a 6-6 record and are in position for the AFC South crown. With only four games left to play and only one of their opponents currently having a record above .500, the Texans control their own destiny. However, this team has been incredibly inconsistent, so this will be a rough four-game stretch for Houston.
The Texans are currently tied for first place in the AFC South with the Indianapolis Colts, and they will play the Colts in Week 15 of the NFL season. In fact, three of the Texans’ final four opponents are AFC South rivals. The Texans’ only non-AFC South opponent is the currently 10-2 New England Patriots, who have lost two straight. This upcoming schedule gives the Texans a fighting chance to win their division for the first time since 2012.
Both the Tennessee Titans and Jacksonville Jaguars, the Texans’ other AFC South rivals, have shown something, especially on offense, so the rest of the AFC South will be looking to play spoilers. However, the Texans have already defeated both teams in earlier matchups. The only problem is the Texans defeated the Titans without Marcus Mariota, which makes their Week 16 game a more difficult game than most experts think. The Texans cannot take any of these teams lightly because they dug themselves such a big hole earlier in the season with a 2-5 start.
The Texans were viewed as a playoff contender entering this season, but they have underperformed given the talent that is on their roster. This team has been through so much turmoil this season, especially with the trainwreck that was Ryan Mallett and the season-ending injury to Arian Foster. Houston will gladly take a 6-6 record given what has happened already, and Texans fans will only hope that this team can make another push to get into the postseason.
