5 Players the Kansas City Chiefs Should Cut During the Offseason

5 Players the Kansas City Chiefs Should Cut During the Offseason Denny Medley USA TODAY Sports
The Kansas City Chiefs have been one of the good, under-appreciated stories of the 2015 NFL season. A nine-game winning streak, after a 1-5 start, has the Chiefs entering Week 17 with a chance to win the AFC West. The offseason is going to be here before too long, and here are five players the Chiefs should cut before Week 1 of the 2016 season.

5. TE Brian Parker

Parker has one catch in eight games played this season, as he's been buried on the depth chart. There's no reason for the Chiefs to carry him very far into the offseason.

4. FB Anthony Sherman

Sherman is just one season into a three-year contract extension he signed with Kansas City a little over a year ago. But $2.8 million over the next two seasons for a lead blocker is too much, so the Chiefs should consider making a tough decision and letting Sherman go during the offseason.

3. RB Knile Davis

In theory, Jamaal Charles' torn ACL would have opened up an opportunity for Davis this season. But Charcandrick West and Spencer Ware have both usurped him on the depth chart, and it's hard to find an angle that justifies the Chiefs keeping Davis heading into next season.

2. CB Marcus Cooper

Cooper has not seen much action this season, playing in just eight games with a minimal role. He has one year left on his contract, with a $675,000 base salary, so the Chiefs don't have a financial concern that would force them to keep Cooper.

1. RB De'Anthony Thomas

Thomas' 2015 season was derailed by a concussion, then he was placed on the reserve/non-football injury list this week. He didn't do much as a return man this season, and he only had 26 offensive touches, so the Chiefs don't really have to keep Thomas if they don't see a need to.
