In his application for relocation to Los Angeles, St. Louis Rams owner Stan Kroenke painted the city of St. Louis in a horrible light. He criticized the city’s economy, population growth and poor stadium plan as reasons he believes that St. Louis is better off being a two-sport city.
After hearing how much Kroenke and the Rams bashed his city, St. Louis mayor Francis G. Slay penned a letter to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell pointing out many discrepancies in Kroenke’s story. Slay said that he has tremendous relationships with the Cardinals and Blues which helped lead to “negotiate public/private partnerships” that facilitated the ability to build the Cardinals’ new stadium.
Slay said that he’s never had the chance to meet with Kroenke as the Rams owner hasn’t agreed to meeting with him at any time. He also wrote that St. Louis is home to six of the largest private companies in the U.S. and is the 20th largest metro area in the country.

It will be interesting to see how Goodell feels about this whole situation. On the one hand, St. Louis doesn’t seem to be a great football town as the Rams ranked last in the NFL in attendance in 2015. With that being said, it seems possible that it could be due to Kroenke’s poor relationship with the city leaders and fans.
I’m sure this isn’t the last we’ve heard of this saga.
