The Detroit Lions snagged Bob Quinn from the New England Patriots to fill their general manager vacancy.
Quinn is a noted scout and personnel guy, and many believe he will be a brilliant GM.
But he has yet to prove himself. Before he’s crowned as Detroit’s savior, he needs to make the right moves.
And general Quinn’s first target should be eliminating Jim Caldwell‘s job. Caldwell is the epitome of a clueless coach. Don’t believe it? Just watch his terrible clock management moves that date back to his days with the Indianapolis Colts. And remember how unprepared he was with a dumbfounded look on his face when everyone in America knew Aaron Rodgers was going to attempt a Hail Mary, but Caldwell elected to defend the lateral instead.
He’s not a good coach. His in-game decisions are unforgivable. He was reluctant to make offensive changes, when it was beyond evident that his scheme was destroying the Lions’ personnel. These points can’t be overshadowed all because of Detroit’s meaningless 6-2 finish. And in plenty of those games, the Lions’ offense went silent — like the second half against the Green Bay Packers, and against the St. Louis Rams. If Caldwell is such an offensive mind, the Lions shouldn’t have been an offensive disaster like they have been the past two seasons.
Quinn needs to get a better coach in here — especially one that matches his football philosophy. If Caldwell suits Quinn’s wants, there’s a serious issue here. He’s proven his incompetence countless times. Quinn needs to make an adequate coaching change and turn Detroit around.
Luckily for him, the Lions hired him early. No head coaches have been hired yet, so the there is still time to make the right decision.
