The NFL is moving back to the Los Angeles area one way or another, and it seemed a foregone conclusion the St. Louis Rams, owner Stan Kroenke and Inglewood would be involved. But the San Diego Chargers and Oakland Raiders have teamed up on a bid involving a new stadium in Carson, and USA Today is reporting that proposal has been recommended by the league’s committee on Los Angeles opportunities.
Robert Kraft, John Mara, Art Rooney, Jerry Richardson, Clark Hunt and Bob McNair make up the six-owner Los Angeles committee. The group’s recommendation is not binding on its own, but the Raiders/Chargers Carson proposal would presumably have a jump on the 24 votes it needs right off the bat. USA Today reported that Hunt is the one of the six to not have offered a clear position for or against the Carson bid, but other outlets have counted Hunt as a vote against it.
Dallas Cowboys‘ owner Jerry Jones has pushed the idea of the Rams and Chargers sharing a stadium in Inglewood, and that bid has apparently been submitted for a possible vote as well. For what it’s worth the Chargers reportedly have no interest in the Rams’ stadium plan, but owner Dean Spanos recently said he will abide by whatever the league decides.
Things will surely fluctuate plenty, until an official vote on which teams will relocate to Los Angeles is confirmed and announced. There will not be three teams moving, and the Rams by themselves have also been written off. No matter which proposal is approved, the Chargers look like the team that is sure to move.
