5 Reasons Why Ron Rivera Is A Better Head Coach Than Gary Kubiak

The two Super Bowl head coaches have had a much different path to this point. The Carolina Panthers were Ron Rivera‘s first head coaching gig while Denver BroncosGary Kubiak failed as head coach of the Houston Texans before getting a chance with the Broncos. With that being said, here are five reasons why the Panthers have the edge in the coaching department.

5. 'Riverboat Ron'

Over the last couple seasons, Rivera has notably become more risky when it comes to tough decisions. He's not afraid to roll the dice on a 4th-and-1 or to go for the touchdown instead of the field goal. He also is the best head coach in the league at correctly challenging plays. His sudden riskiness has earned him the nickname 'Riverboat Ron.'

4. Mike Ditka

One of the greatest coaches to ever grace the NFL is fully in the corner of former player Ron Rivera. Rivera has said that he's leaned on Ditka's advice numerous times since becoming a head coach and that advice has helped the Panthers move within one victory of eternal greatness.

For people that don't know, the Panthers are one big family that supports and loves each other. These guys know what their role is and how to execute it because of the direction from Rivera. The Broncos are more a sum of great talent that was put together by general manager John Elway and not necessarily due to the bonds created by the players.

2. Super Bowl Champion As Player

While Kubiak has been a part of three Super Bowl champion teams as a coach, he never won as a player. Rivera, on the other hand, was a member of the dominate 1985 Chicago Bears who demolished everything in their site. He knows what it takes to get his team ready and he knows what to tell his players about the things they'll experience in the big game, which is a huge plus.

1. Longevity

Rivera received his first head coaching gig in 2011 with the Panthers and while the early years were rocky as he was nearly fired, Rivera knows this roster inside and out. With Kubiak being in his first season coaching the Broncos, he doesn't know his team as well and he's winning with John Fox's players.
