In case you haven’t noticed, Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton is huge into fashion. Aside from maybe Russell Westbrook, he has one of the most interesting fashion games in professional sports, and he’s not afraid to put it on display. He’s gone to postgame press conferences wearing a fox tail out of his pocket, sparkling shoes and a blue camo suit jacket, but nothing blew up the internet like what he wore yesterday.
When Newton arrived at the team facility on Sunday to board the team plane to San Jose for Super Bowl 50, he was caught by cameras wearing a very interesting pair of pants. They were mostly zebra-striped with gold splotches spreading throughout the design. It was definitely an interesting choice, but the pundits behind the keyboards disapproved mightily.
Any one see Cam Newton’s pants? If he wasn’t a world class quarterback I would say he must be blind. Still love him. #KeepPounding

Does Brutus Beefcake know Cam Newton stole his pants? pic.twitter.com/irlLL8IQbE

I don’t like Cam Newton’s choice of yellow flame pants today. I stand by that, and your scorching column can’t convince me I’m wrong.

While everyone was busy making fun of him, Newton and the designer of the pants, Versace, were making bank. Reportedly, Versace offered Newton $1 million to wear those pants yesterday and they have since completely sold out at a retail price of $849.
Who’s laughing now?
