With the Indianapolis Colts trying to save enough cap space to give Andrew Luck a lucrative contract extension, the team will be looking for the right players at the right price. However, the Colts will still try to make a big splash in free agency. Here are five players they must pursue this offseason.
5. RB Ronnie Hillman

The Colts have no reliable backup to Frank Gore right now, so Hillman should be someone they look into. In his time with the Denver Broncos, Hillman has proved to be a serviceable running back in the league. At only 24 years old, he can be the Colts’ backup running back and has the potential to grow into primary back in the years to come.

4. OG Alex Boone

Alex Boone might be the most coveted offensive guard this offseason, and as a result, his price tag will be high. However, the Colts currently lack offensive line talent and need a proven veteran like Boone. He is 28 years old, so there should not be much concern about him failing like Todd Herremans did this past season. Boone could help solidify an inconsistent Colts offensive line in 2016.

3. ILB Demario Davis

If the Colts are going to let Jerrell Freeman walk, they need to invest a good amount of money in finding a solid replacement for him. Demario Davis will be available this offseason, as all signs are pointing toward the New York Jets letting him walk. Davis seems to be around the football on every play and is an excellent tackler. If the Colts can pair him with their top inside linebacker D’Qwell Jackson, the team would instantly have one of best inside linebacker duos in the league.

2. OLB Courtney Upshaw

The Colts need better outside linebackers and need to get younger. If they get the 26-year-old Upshaw this offseason, the Colts would effectively fill both needs. Upshaw is familiar with new defensive coordinator Ted Monachino, as he coached Upshaw as the Baltimore Ravens’ linebackers coach. Under Monachino's guidance, Upshaw would be able to seamlessly transition into one of the Colts' starting outside linebackers.

1. CB Trumaine Johnson

In today’s NFL, teams can never have too many cornerbacks. The Colts could use a legitimate shut down corner to join Vontae Davis, and Trumaine Johnson will be one of the more coveted guys this offseason. His tremendous coverage skills allowed him to snag seven interceptions in 2015. For this reason, Johnson will be one of the more expensive cornerback free agents, but the Colts are desperate for a top quality defensive back so he'll be well worth the price.
