The Carolina Panthers entered Super Bowl 50 as heavy favorites after winning 17 of their 18 games in the 2015-16 season. The offense was clicking on all cylinders while the defense had been pretty dominant. Unfortunately, that all came to a halt when they met the Denver Broncos on Sunday and suffered a 24-10 defeat. Here are five players who may lose their jobs after such a disappointing showing.
5. CB Josh Norman
Getty ImagesNorman is an interesting case, as his shutdown ability was a big reason why the Panthers' defense was able to be so successful this season. That being said, he's a free agent and will command a large contract on the open market. Norman may end up being too expensive for the Panthers to keep.
4. DE Jared Allen
Getty ImagesAllen is owed $8.5 million in 2016, and with the way Kony Ealy played last night, there's no chance of him keeping his starting job. There's also been rumors swirling that Allen may retire, but either way, don't expect him to be in a Panthers uniform next season.
3. SS Roman Harper
Getty ImagesHarper was a great veteran leader this season for the Panthers' secondary, but he's a free agent and likely won't be brought back at 33 years old.
2. DE Charles Johnson
Getty ImagesJohnson had a solid showing in the Super Bowl after he recorded five tackles, a sack and a forced fumble, but he's set to make $10.75 million in the final year of his deal next season. Expect him to be a cap casualty this offseason.
1. RT Mike Remmers
Getty ImagesWhile I place part of the blame on the Panthers' offensive coaching staff for not giving him more help in the second half, Remmers was the biggest reason why Von Miller won Super Bowl MVP. Miller had a field day using his speed to get past Remmers on his way to 2.5 sacks and two forced fumbles.
