Indianapolis Colts’ 5 Biggest Draft Needs Heading Into 2016 Combine

The Indianapolis Colts need to fix a lot of things this offseason after only earning an 8-8 record in 2015. While the Colts will address some of their needs with free agent signings, they still need to use the draft to fill a few remaining holes. Here are their five biggest draft needs heading into the 2016 combine.

5. Running Back

Behind starting Frank Gore, the Colts have virtually no talent at running back. With the 32-year-old Gore only getting older, the Colts may want to consider drafting a backup who has the potential to develop into a future starter.

4. Cornerback

The Colts did select D’Joun Smith in the 2015 NFL Draft, but injuries prevented the rookie from showing off his skills. With that in mind, they should consider drafting insurance at cornerback. They need to improve their 24th ranked pass defense.

3. Right Tackle

The Colts’ offensive line was abysmal in 2015 and could use an upgrade. Joe Reitz proved he could be a solid right tackle in key situations, but the Colts should address the position. Competition will make Reitz and their new prospect better.

2. Outside Linebacker

The Colts need to be proactive in finding a young pass rusher because a strong pass rush can cover up pass coverage deficiencies. Also, a 34-year-old Robert Mathis is currently their top outside linebacker, so the team needs to improve here.

1. Left Guard

The team needs to double up on offensive linemen in this draft. Left guard is a priority, because Todd Herremans failed miserably at the position, Lance Louis struggled there as well, and Hugh Thornton is better suited in a backup role.
