After being cut by the Carolina Panthers, Pittsburgh Steelers running back DeAngelo Williams had a resurgent season in 2015. On Monday he tweeted a photo of the paper the Panthers gave him upon being released, and in further interaction with fans on Twitter he took a seemingly unsolicited shot at New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick.
From what I’m told only tom Brady likes the head coach so no thank u I’m happy where I am https://t.co/WILRq6FbSu

Belichick is obviously no stranger to outside criticism, from his stoic nature publicly to the Spygate and Deflategate scandals that have hung over the Patriots at times during his tenure. Williams’ tweet came as a response to a suggestion he could finish his career with the Patriots, and he chose to go a step further with the suggestion that Tom Brady is the only player who likes Belichick.
The Steelers look like a potential Super Bowl contender for next season if their key players can stay on the field, so Williams’ suggestion he’s happy where he is may not prevent him from getting a ring before his career is over. Doing so without having to sign with New England in that pursuit may be where his criticism of Belichick is coming from. The Patriots head coach is unlikely to give the thoughts of an opposing player much consideration, and that aspect of his personality has probably driven his success as much as anything.
