2016 NFL Draft: Dallas Cowboys Pre-Combine Seven-Round Mock

The 2015 season couldn’t have gone any worse for the Dallas Cowboys as Dez Bryant broke his foot in Week 1 and Tony Romo broke his collarbone in Week 2 and then again in Week 12 which helped lead to a 4-12 record. In the process, the Cowboys definitely were able to evaluate their entire roster and they found more holes than I’m sure Jerry Jones would like to admit. Here’s a recent seven-round mock I did for the team using FanSpeak’s mock draft simulator.

Round 1, No. 4 Overall: S Jalen Ramsey, Florida State

Ramsey is the best player in this draft, but he doesn't play a premium position which is why he's not really an option to go No. 1 overall. The Cowboys would be ecstatic to have him patrolling their defensive backfield for years to come.

Round 2, No. 34 Overall: RB Ezekiel Elliott, Ohio State

There's a 99 percent chance that Elliott will be gone by this time in the real 2016 NFL Draft, but he was available in this mock and there's no way the Cowboys would pass on him if he drops this far.

Round 3, No. 67 Overall: WR Josh Doctson, TCU

It's time the Cowboys give up on Terrance Williams as the starting wide receiver opposite of Dez Bryant. If Doctson is available at this spot, he would give a huge boost to Tony Romo and the Cowboys' offense in 2016.

Round 4, No. 102 Overall: DT Chris Jones, Mississippi State

Tyrone Crawford is a budding star at one defensive tackle spot, but the Cowboys could stand to upgrade from Nick Hayden at the other. I don't expect Jones to be available at this spot as I believe his value will skyrocket prior to the draft.

Round 4, No. 137 Overall: DE Charles Tapper, Oklahoma

With Greg Hardy becoming a free agent and unlikely to be re-signed, the Cowboys will have an opening opposite of Demarcus Lawrence at defensive end. It should've been taken by Randy Gregory, but he got himself suspended for four games.

Round 6, No. 192 Overall: QB Jacob Coker, Alabama

I don't understand how the starting quarterback on the team that won the national championship doesn't get a combine invite. Coker is a former five-star prospect and knows how to run an offense. He could learn from Romo before taking over.

Round 6, No. 212 Overall: CB Tavon Young, Temple

Orlando Scandrick will be coming off of a torn ACL, Brandon Carr is a has-been and Morris Claiborne is a free agent which leaves Byron Jones as the only definite starter for next season. Young could give the Cowboys some depth at corner.

Round 6, No. 216 Overall: ILB Rodney Hardrick, Oregon

Middle linebacker Rolando McClain is a free agent and he had a down year in 2015 as compared to 2014. Although Hardrick likely wouldn't come in and start right away, he could pitch in on special teams and be a potential starter down the road.

Round 6, No. 217 Overall: OLB Nyeem Wartman, Penn State

Wartman is coming off of a torn ACL in 2015 which likely hindered his draft grade. He's a great tackler who moved to middle linebacker last season, but will likely transition to the outside in the NFL.
