Vernon Hargreaves and 4 Other Prospects Jacksonville Jaguars Should Target In 2016 NFL Draft

By Brad Berreman

The Jacksonville Jaguars finished 5-11 in 2015, including five losses in their final six games, but there are signs of promise going forward. Quarterback Blake Bortles made significant progress in his second season, and wide receivers Allen Robinson and Allen Hurns give him a pair of capable young targets.

With the NFL Combine coming this week, here are five prospects the Jaguars should target in this year’s draft.

Jacksonville needs to add some offensive line competition after allowing 51 sacks last season, and an interior upgrade could be sought in the draft. Glasgow played guard and center at Michigan, and he could push for a starting job immediately.

Powell followed the Ohio State caravan to the NFL Draft, and he was a three-year starter for the Buckeyes. With high marks for his size, speed and versatility, the Jaguars could use a safety of Powell's ilk in their secondary.

Now that Bortles has weapons available to him, upgrading his pass protection has to be a priority. Luke Joeckel is in place at left tackle, but Hawkins played both tackle spots at LSU and looks like a solid fit.

2. Michigan State DE Shilique Calhoun

The Jaguars had no one with more than 5.5 sacks in 2015, so adding some pass rush is definitely in the cards. Calhoun missed the Senior Bowl with an injury, and he's a tweener (252 pounds), so he may fall right to Jacksonville as a draft steal.

Jacksonville intercepted just nine passes last season, with the league's 29th-ranked pass defense, so secondary help is needed. Hargreaves is widely considered the top corner in this year's class, and at No. 5 overall he should be available.
