The NFL offseason doesn’t officially begin until a slew of players get themselves arrested. Well, we can finally begin the 2016 NFL Offseason as Shiloh Keo, Jonathan Newsome and now Houston Texans WR Jaelen Strong have all been arrested in the last two weeks. Keo was cuffed for a DUI and Newsome and Strong were busted for marijuana possession.
Strong was arrested on Sunday night in Scottsdale, AZ after being pulled over by cops in a car driven by his former Arizona State teammate and current Green Bay Packers corner Demarious Randall.
Officer Kevin Watts of the Public Information Office of the Scottsdale Police Department released this statement:
“On Sunday February 28, 2016 at approximately 11:59 p.m. officers with the Scottsdale Police Department observed a black Maserati driving with no visible license plate. A traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle in the area of 5th Avenue and Drinkwater Boulevard. The vehicle was occupied by three subjects- driver Damarious Randall and passengers Jaelen Strong and Brayon Colley. When officers made contact with the vehicle driver they detected the strong the odor marijuana coming from the inside of the vehicle. All of the occupants were questioned about the odor, if they had marijuana in their possession, and if they had a medical marijuana card. Strong admitted that he was (in) possession of some marijuana and advised that he did not have a medical marijuana card. Strong provided officers with a cigar package containing three marijuana cigarettes. Mr. Strong was placed under arrest for possession of marijuana. He was booked into the Scottsdale City Jail and later released pending charges with Maricopa County Superior Court. Mr. Randall and Colley were both released at the scene.”
Following a disappointing rookie season in 2016, this isn’t a great way for Strong to get in the good graces of the Texans’ coaching staff. In fact, general manager Rick Smith released a statement expressing his disappointment in Strong:
“The Houston Texans are aware of the incident regarding WR Jaelen Strong in Scottsdale, Ariz.,” said Smith. “We are disappointed in the choices Jaelen made to put himself in this situation. We will have no further comment at this time.”
It’ll be important for Strong to turn things around going forward. He has too much talent to let a perfectly good NFL career go down the drain due to maturity issues.
