With the addition of DeMarco Murray in the backfield for the Tennessee Titans, it should come as no surprise to anyone that the early favorite for their No. 1 overall draft pick is an offensive lineman, Laremy Tunsil.
That being said, the Titans have multiple needs all over the field that must be addressed in the upcoming 2016 NFL Draft outside of their top draft pick.
One of these needs is at the safety positon, where the Titans are extraordinarily thin after releasing longtime safety Michael Griffin this offseason. After trading down just 13 spots in the fourth round for Murray from the Philadelphia Eagles, Tennessee would be in prime position to pick up a safety like Kevin Byard, who played his college football just down the road from Nashville at MTSU.
Byard finished last season with four interceptions, six pass deflections and 66 total tackles, despite missing two games. His 19 career interceptions are extremely impressive, especially when one of the major concerns for this player is his height. His ability to read passes and create big plays makes up for it though, so anyone unfamiliar with C-USA football should check out some of the many highlights of his career.
Playing in Murfreesboro should give Byard an advantage to getting situated in the NFL. The fans will immediately love him because of his work ethic and local ties, and he is already acclimated with the area after spending four years with the Blue Raiders.
Byard seems to be the perfect fit for the Titans once the draft swings round – but now he just needs John Robinson to agree.
