The Buffalo Bills have been relatively quiet thus far in the free agency period, but they have been more active over the past couple of days.
The team has agreed to deals with a couple of defensive players over the last couple of days in linebacker Zach Brown and cornerback Sterling Moore. Signing the latter could prove to be an excellent move for the Bills as he has proven to be a terrific depth cornerback during his career.
We’ve signed free agent CB Sterling Moore. Welcome aboard!

Moore was an undrafted free agent out of SMU in the 2011 NFL Draft and eventually found a home with the New England Patriots at the beginning of the 2011 season. Though his time with the Patriots was brief, he played a major role in helping the team make it to the Super Bowl during the playoffs. He was arguably their best secondary defender during that playoff run, as he grabbed a couple of key picks and was stellar in pass defense.
However, the team made a curious and classically Bill Belichick move and cut Moore during the 2012 season. From there, Moore bounced around the league playing well as a starting safety and a depth corner with the Dallas Cowboys and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He was not quite as good as he was during his time with the Patriots, but he was still a solid player and was a pretty solid tackler given his slight frame (5-foot-10).
With Buffalo, Moore is going to probably end up being a key depth player for the team. He could end up being the team’s top backup at safety and he could even take over for Nickell Robey as their nickelback if he outplays him in the preseason. Regardless, Rex Ryan will figure out a way to use Moore to the best of his abilities and he could end up making a big difference for the Bills’ defense.
Signing Moore was a terrific move by the Bills. The team needed one extra depth player in their secondary and they got a talented and versatile player. And at age 26, Moore still has room to grow with the rest of the Bills’ young defense. There is no downside to signing Moore and he will have an impact on the Bills in the upcoming season.
