The possibility of London getting a NFL franchise has been a hot topic throughout the league for some time now. While it’s certainly been discussed, many NFL experts never saw it as a realistic possibility because of the ridiculous amount of travel involved, exchange rate and potential scheduling issues involved.
Despite those issues, commissioner Roger Goodell told Jacksonville Jaguars season ticket holders that a London NFL franchise is certainly possible.
“I actually believe that a franchise in London is realistic,” Goodell said.
Although he believes it’s a possibility, Goodell acknowledges that there are still hurdles to figure out.
“We’re still trying to make sure we can do it from a proper competitive standpoint,” Goodell said. “You don’t want to put a team over there and have them at a competitive disadvantage. And then the logistics, how you work that out. That’s not easy.”
The aforementioned issues seem to be a stumbling block, but Goodell said that the league wouldn’t have any problems overcoming any of them.
“I think we can find solutions to those issues,” Goodell said. “The way we schedule and the way we do things, those are things we’re still focused on. As a market, I believe they can support a franchise.”
It still seems a little far-fetched to me, but as we’ve seen in the past, if Goodell is determined to get it done, then he usually finds a way to get it done.
