Ezekiel Elliott is the top running back in the 2016 NFL draft class, and he’s a possible top-10 overall pick. The Philadelphia Eagles who have the No. 8 overall pick, reportedly have a lot of interest in Elliott, but he has his eye on playing for another NFC East squad.
During a conference call with reporters on Friday, passed along by Todd Archer of ESPN.com, Elliott expressed excitement over the possibility of playing for the Dallas Cowboys.
“Definitely it does get me excited, “Who doesn’t want to run through big holes? I think that would be a place I could make the most immediate impact. It would be good for me to go in, learn from a lot of veterans, a lot of superstars, and I think it would be a good experience.”
“I believe we do have a good chemistry between myself and the Cowboys,” Elliott said of his meeting with Dallas at the combine. “I’ve got to spend a lot of time with the coaches. I’ve known (offensive coordinator Scott Linehan) since I was younger. I played sports against his son in St. Louis. That’s a weird connection. Shows you how small the world is.
The Cowboys currently have the fourth overall pick in the first round, so they will be well-positioned to take Elliott if they want him. An heir apparent to quarterback Tony Romo or the best defensive player available may be on Dallas’ radar at No. 4, with a trade down also a possibility, but immediate contributors have to be the Cowboys’ top priority in the upcoming draft and Elliott recognizes his ability to fit that bill.
