The Seattle Seahawks‘ original “Legion of Boom” is back intact as cornerback Brandon Browner has signed a one-year contract to return to the Pacific Northwest. Browner left the Seahawks to join the New England Patriots following the 2013 season and then spent 2015 with the New Orleans Saints.
In 2015, Browner was rated as the worst cornerback in the NFL by Pro Football Focus. Not only did he struggle to cover receivers, but he was also flagged for 24 penalties which is the most by any player since at least 2001.
Following Browner’s departure, the Seahawks replaced him with Byron Maxwell in 2014, but he signed a long-term contract with the Philadelphia Eagles last offseason. The team signed Cary Williams to play opposite of Richard Sherman, but he played so poorly that the Seahawks ended up releasing him.
Given his familiarity with the scheme and his teammates, Browner’s best chance to succeed is in Seattle. Look for him to have a bit of a bounce-back season in 2016 with the Seahawks.
