Former New York Giants running back Tiki Barber now works as a radio host for CBS Sports. His job requires him to give his objective opinion on the hot-button issues involving the NFL, and during an appearance on 106.7 The Fan, Barber weighed in on who he believes is the best quarterback in the NFC East.
“I think it has to be Kirk (Cousins). It has to be,” Barber told 106.7 The Fan’s Chad Dukes. “None of the guys from the Eagles excite me. Eli and Tony are old, and Kirk just feels like he took the right steps.
“We were talking early about how Tom Coughlin reinvented himself. Kirk, who is only 24 years old, reinvented who he was. There’s a lot to be excited about with him, especially if he keeps continuity with his coordinators and just keeps taking the small steps forward. You don’t need to take leaps and bounds but just take small steps forward.
“Especially if you have talent around you, which the Washington Redskins do.”
Let me first point out that Barber was way off as Cousins is actually 27 years old and not 24. That being said, I think it’s a little to early to say who the best quarterback is in this division. Cousins had one solid year, Eli Manning is coming off of one of the best seasons of his career statistically and Tony Romo is returning from a broken collarbone. It’s entirely possible that 2016 is completely different.
Moral of the story: Let’s pump the brakes on Cousins until he proves he can do it two years in a row.
