Less than one week after being found not guilty in a double murder trial, former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez committed suicide in his jail cell.
He was just 27 years old.
According to the Massachusetts Department of Corrections, Hernandez attached a sheet to his cell window and hanged himself.
He tried to block his door by “jamming it with various items.”
Serving a life sentence on his conviction for the murder of Odin Lloyd, this really is a stunning conclusion to a very young man’s life who once had the world at his fingertips in the NFL.
