Roberto Luongo was the starting goaltender in both of the final two games for the Vancouver Canucks. It wasn’t because the Canucks had a change of heart, but because main goalie, Cory Schneider, has some type of injury that the team is being quiet about.
As of now, Schneider is day-to-day with what head coach, Alain Vigneault, is describing to the media as a “body injury” and no one is quite sure as to whether he will be ready in time for the playoffs come Wednesday. Actually, its not that they’re not sure, it’s that they’re not saying. Apparently, Vancouver team procedures for not disclosing an injury has become even stricter for the playoffs so its uncertain as to who will start in goal for the Canucks this coming Wednesday for Game 1 against the San Jose Sharks.
Schneider had a full practice with the team today, so if he is ready by then he will most likely start in goal for the playoffs especially after Luongo’s poor showing for the Canucks during the last regular season game against the Edmonton Oilers this past Saturday (they lost the last two games in which he started). He allowed seven goals out of 37 shots he faced from the Oilers (that’s a .811 SV% for the game).
Until then, there will be plenty of speculation as to who will start in goal for the Canucks; however, the team won’t be announcing it until game day on Wednesday.
