The Carolina Hurricanes just completed what ended up being a rough year for them. But several of their players will be playing on into the summer, even if it’s not in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Seven Hurricanes will be representing their countries at the IIHF World Championships next month. Four of them will be representing Canada, a pair will be representing the United States, and the lone soldier Jiri Tlusty will be representing the Czech Republic in the tournament that begins on May 3rd.
The most recently added to the group of Canes that will be participating in Worlds is Jay Harrison. The veteran defenseman was the third Carolina blue liner added to the tournament, joining Justin Faulk and Jamie McBain, both of which will be skating for the United States. Harrison, though, will be joining Team Canada.
Harrison was pretty much the most durable of any of the Hurricanes’ defenseman, as it was a group depleted by injury over the course of the regular season. Harrison did manage to play in 47 games, seven more than the next closest defenseman, which was McBain with 40.
On the season, Harrison had 10 points in those 47 games. He was a minus-10 for the year, which actually isn’t a terrible mark considering how poor this team was in the second half of the year. His 110 blocked shots on the season were easily tops on the team, 46 more than the next closest player.
Even if the Hurricanes aren’t playing in the postseason, it will be nice to see quite a bit of representation for the club at the World Championships in May.
