Philadelphia Flyers’ Offensive Draft Options

Offensive draft options for the Philadelphia Flyers

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

While it’s very imperative that the Philadelphia Flyers draft a defenseman, they can also be on the lookout for a strong offensive player to add to the system. So, who are the top targets the Flyers need to go after in this year’s draft?

How about these two players from the Quebec Major Juniors Hockey League (QMJHL), Jonathan Drouin and Nathan MacKinnon, who play for the Halifax Mooseheads?

Drouin and MacKinnon come in the Central Scouting report as No. 2 and No. 3, respectfully. They were not only teammates with the Mooseheads but also during the 2013 World Junior Championships for Team Canada. So, these two know how to play well together.

Drouin, with his 41 goals and 64 assists this past season, would be a perfect fit for the Flyers. The team showed some scoring weakness this season, so drafting this high scoring left winger would not be such a bad idea. He is also very sought after, but his teammate MacKinnon could also be a good fit for the struggling Flyers team.

MacKinnon is not that far off from his teammate. He rounded off his season with the Mooseheads with 75 points. He was able to find the back of the net 32 times and helped his teammates do the same 43 times. The Flyers want a player who can score a lot, but it’s also important to find a player who knows how to be a team player.

Both of these players know how to do that. It’s also clear that these two bounce off each other pretty well already. If the Flyers are smart, they’ll try to draft both of these players. Since they pick 11th in the first round, that may be difficult, but either of these two would really help the Flyers build up their team.
