The Detroit Red Wings are a team that may be looked at in a number of different ways. They can be called old and slow in certain positions, but they can also be called talented. Detroit is going to need to use that talent to avoid being eliminated from their first-round NHL playoff series. The Red Wings fell behind 3-2 in their series against the Anaheim Ducks with a 3-2 overtime loss on Wednesday night. Game 6 of the series will be on Friday night in Detroit, and this is where the experience of the Wings needs to show through.
I really think that the Red Wings will win the series in seven games if they can win Game 6 at home. Anaheim could fold under the pressure of being in a win or go home scenario. Jimmy Howard did everything he could before giving up the winning goal in overtime during Game 5. There have been three games already in this series that have gone into overtime. I believe that this could be one of the last runs for Detroit though before they have to go through a major rebuilding project.
The age is showing on some players, and who knows how much longer some of them will keep playing. That is why this postseason is so important in Detroit. It would appear that the Red Wings would get one final chance at the Chicago Blackhawks in the next round if they can win the last two games of this series. There is a lot of motivation there to make a comeback, so we shall wait and see whether or not it actually happens beginning on Friday night.
