If the first two games of the 2013 Stanley Cup Finals are any indication of what to expect–this is going to be one heck of a series for the Chicago Blackhawks and Boston Bruins. After the Blackhawks overcame a 3-1 third period deficit in Game 1 before winning 4-3 in triple overtime, it was the Bruins who bounced back in Game 2 with the 2-1 overtime win to tie the series up at 1-1.
Obviously, Game 3 will be important for both teams to win as the last thing the Blackhawks or Bruins want to do is head into Game 4 trailing 2-1, but unfortunately for Chicago–they’re going to have to play without one of their key stars in Marian Hossa.
Apparently, Hossa was one of the key players ruled out for Monday’s game after injuring himself during warm ups. Details are still coming in about the injury, but the one thing that’s for certain is how huge this is for the Blackhawks considering they will need all of the help they can get against the Bruins in Game 3. As bad as it sounds, Boston realizes how close they were to being up 2-0 in this series and it’s clear they’re going to come out firing on all cylinders to take advantage of playing on home ice over the next two games.
For the sake of the Blackhawks, let’s hope this injury isn’t long-term and Hossa will be back for Game 4 considering he has 15 points for the team this postseason. Otherwise–this series could get even more interesting for Chicago.
