Top 5 Philadelphia Flyers Away Games
There is not much going on in Philadelphia Flyers news right now as the team starts informal skates and amps up for training camp. Training camp will start less than a month from now and before we know it, pre-season will be upon us and then it will finally be time for some regular season NHL hockey games.
Hockey fans are just as eager for the season to start as the players. The Flyers players who have been training extra hard in the offseason will be bringing it this season after the debacle of last year’s disappointing shortened season. With the addition of Ray Emery in net, and NHL veterans Vincent Lecavalier and Mark Streit added to the roster, things are finally looking up for the team. At least I hope it is.
Now before I go on speculating some more about which players will rise above expectations this season and who will slump, let’s focus on the games themselves. After all, the games are where the action is and that’s what we’re really interested in hearing about anyway.
About a week ago I brought you a list of the top five most anticipated games of the season. That list encompassed a lot of great early-season games, but they were mostly home games that occurred within the first three months in the season.
In the spirit of that list, I bring to you a list of the five anticipated Philadelphia Flyers away games. Yes, these games also do encompass the first couple months of the 2013-2014 season.
5. Philadelphia Flyers at Montreal Canadiens
When the Flyers visit the Montreal Canadiens on October 5, not only will they face off against former teammate Danny Briere, but they will be playing their first away game of the regular season. The rivalry is strong between these two teams, so it should also make for a great hockey game.
4. Philadelphia Flyers at New York Islanders
The Flyers will face off against division rivals the New York Islanders on the Isles' turf on October 26. As much as the Flyers boast about beating the Isles in one game 7-0 last season, the Isles really gave it to the team by beating them for a playoff spot and going on to take on the Pittsburgh Penguins.
3. Philadelphia Flyers at New Jersey Devils
The Flyers will face their neighbors, the New Jersey Devils early on in the season, and the rivalry between these two teams is so vicious that I had to put it on both lists of anticipated games.
2. Philadelphia Flyers at Ottawa Senators
The Flyers and the Ottawa Senators' rivalry isn’t that big, but these games have become ruthless in recent seasons. Also factor in that this is the last team the Flyers faced last season, and they will really want to prove themselves to an Ottawa crowd. This is especially true for home-grown talent Claude Giroux, who captains the visiting team.
1. Philadelphia Flyers at Pittsburgh Penguins
We know that the first time the Flyers play the Penguins, it will be a big deal. These two teams legitimately hate each other and it shows. Whatever the outcome of their first meeting is on October 15, both of them will be out for blood in the rematch at the Consol Energy Center on November 11. I mean seriously, who else wants to see Claude Giroux and Sidney Crosby in a captains' fight? I know it's not just me.
