Predicting the Final Score of the 2015 NHL All-Star Game

Fantasy Draft

The NHL All-Star game has certainly undergone many changes in the past 20 years. It used to be East vs. West, then it was North America vs. World and now it’s a fantasy draft. They are always trying to change their game to make it more interesting. Predicting the final score to an All-Star game is an impossible task because the goaltenders are left out to dry and defense is optional. So here goes nothing.

Team captains, Jonathan Toews and Nick Foligno, picked their teams Friday night for the Skills Competition and the All-Star game on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. Without delving too much into the rosters and strategy of the two captains, Toews team seems to be the strongest one on paper. Toews has multiple MVP candidates on his team, including Ryan Getzlaf, Rick Nash and Tyler Seguin, the NHL’s leading scorer in Jakub Voracek and three great goalies.

On the other hand, Foligno drafted teammates instead of the best players available. I’m not going to sit here and pick apart Foligno’s strategy because this game doesn’t mean a thing. It’s for the fans, and it’s supposed to be a weekend of fun for everyone involved.

One thing is for sure, though. Goals will be scored by both teams, most likely double-digits. Just looking back at the last five all-star games, they have all been within three goals, and double-digit goals were obtained in all but one game. I can’t help but think that this game will end up exactly the same.

Prediction: Team Toews 12, Team Foligno 10.
