Anaheim Ducks (31-10-6) vs. Vancouver Canucks (26-16-3)
Game Time: Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2015, 10:00 p.m. EST / 7:00 p.m. PST
After the big trade of Ryan Kesler from Vancouver to Anaheim this past summer, the games between the Ducks and Canucks have been much anticipated all season long. They haven’t been disappointing.
The Ducks are currently topping the NHL standings, a position they have hovered around all season long. Gritty and strong, with a knack for winning games even when down, the Ducks are definitely one of the best teams in the league. On the other hand, after a less than stellar last season, the Canucks have seen a resurgence this past season under the coach of Willie Desjardins and the revitalized play of Henrik Sedin and Daniel Sedin. Two others great additions to the lineup have been Radim Vrbata and Nick Bonino, who came along in the Kesler trade.
Players to Watch:
Anaheim: Ryan Getzlaf, Ryan Kesler
Vancouver: Radim Vrbata, Nick Bonino
Coming in hot after the All-Star game, I think Ryan Getzlaf is going to have a great game for Anaheim along with Kesler, who has to be fired up to play his old squad. With Vancouver, I think Vrbata is someone to look out for also just coming from the All-Star game. Bonino, the former Duck who has seemed to have their number this season, has a knack for coming up big when the two teams face off.
In all three games the two teams have played so far this season, the games have needed extra time to finish with one ending in overtime and two in a shootout. The Ducks currently have the better record, but the Canucks will surely look to even the score tonight. Even still, I think the Ducks will come out on top.
Final score prediction: Anaheim 3-2
