Last month, the Anaheim Ducks put Dany Heatley on waivers, a decision that was certainly in Anaheim’s best interest. Heatley was a low-risk, high-reward opportunity for the Ducks, but he didn’t end up being the player Anaheim hoped he would be or knew he could be, given that this is a two time fifty-goal scorer. Whether it was due to injury or simply that time has not been kind to him, he is no longer the player he used to be.
Perhaps the writing has been on the wall for a while for Heatley, who has struggled in recent years. Last season with the Minnesota Wild, he only had 28 points in 76 games.
This season, he was slated to play with Corey Perry and Ryan Getzlaf, a line that has no trouble producing and is easily one of the best duo’s in the NHL. The fact that Heatley found himself unsuccessful on this line is surely a sign of his struggle and lack of offensive power. With the Ducks, he played in six games and had zero points with an overall minus-3 rating.
Even at the AHL level, Heatley is struggling for the Norfolk Admirals with a mere two goals and one assist with a minus-7 rating, a far cry from his old playing days. It looks as if Dany Heatley’s playing days are numbered, an unfortunate way to see how far the mighty have fallen.
