5 Free Agents the Sharks Should Target In 2015 Offseason

The San Jose Sharks were supposed to finally find their way into true title contention this season. Their combination of veteran presence and young contributions was going to be the recipe for success. That didn't exactly work out, as they missed the playoffs entirely. They have many defensemen contracts coming off the books, so that is where they will need to retool this team. Here are five players they should go after.

While defense needs to be their priority, they could use a few upside signings at the forward position. Curtis Glencross hurt his value last season, so he has something to play for. The Sharks can afford to give him a team-friendly deal that could give him a chance to make more money next season.

If the Sharks don't trade for a goalie, which they should, they need to go after the best one on the market. Karri Ramo is likely going to be that guy. Alex Stalock did not have the ability to take over the position, so now they need to go in a different direction. Ramo could be the guy for the Sharks.

Andrej Sekera could kill two birds with one stone by taking a player from the Kings and also getting a defenseman to replace some lost pieces. Sekera is not going to fix their defense by himself, but he would be a great piece to the puzzle.

Johnny Oduya is one of the most underrated defensemen in the NHL. He plays on one of the best defensive teams in the league and continuously moves up and down the lineup. The Sharks need a guy who puts the team in front of his own needs like Oduya.

This move obviously comes with a caveat that Christian Erhoff is healthy enough to play. He seemed to fly under the radar this season, but he meant a lot to the Penguins and their success. He would be the prize of the Sharks' offseason if they could get him, as they desperately need to upgrade the defense.
