Game 1: Blackhawks 2 Lightning 1
The Blackhawks struck first in the 2015 NHL Stanley Cup Finals by defeating the Lightning by the score of 2-1. Tampa Bay will look to bounce back in Game 2 on Sunday in an effort to avoid going down in a quick 2-0 hole.
At home, Tampa Bay came out with all the energy and took the play to the Blackhawks right off the opening draw. After controlling play in the offensive zone for most of the first five minutes of play, Alex Killorn and the Lightning got on the board quickly in an otherwise low-scoring Game 1. Killorn used crafty stick work to deflect an Anton Stralman shot behind Blackhaws’ goalie Corey Crawford.
Trailing by a goal, the Blackhawks dominated the third period from beginning to end. After coming close on several occasions, Chicago finally got on the board and tied the score when Teuvo Teravainen’s seeing-eye wrist shot found it’s way past Lightning goaltender Ben Bishop with just under seven minutes to play in the final frame.
Just two minutes later, Teravainen set up the go-ahead and game-winning goal. Antoine Vermette collected the loose puck that was jarred free by Teravainen and wired a wicked wrist shot over the glove of Bishop. Crawford and the Blackhawks defense shut the door on the Lightning for the final five minutes of the game to give the Blackhawks the early series lead.
Tampa Bay knows they can’t afford to fall down two games to none with the series heading back to Chicago for Games 3 and 4. The desperate Lightning will tie the series at one game apiece.
Game 2 Prediction: Lightning 3 Blackhawks 2
