Last season was huge for Philadelphia Flyers forward Jakub Voracek. He tallied 22 goals and 59 assists for 81 points in 82 games and finished fourth in the NHL in total points. He was a constant threat with the puck on his stick and was rewarded for his stellar play with an eight-year, $66 million contract earlier this summer.
This season hasn’t been quite as successful for Voracek, who has drawn some criticism for not being able to put the puck in the net, which simply isn’t fair.
While Voracek has yet to record his first goal of the 2015-16 season, he has been leading the Flyers in shots on goal and it’s not even close, which is encouraging; especially considering he’s on a team with the likes of Claude Giroux, Wayne Simmonds and Sam Gagner, who’s been awesome in the early going of the season and needs to stay in the Flyers’ lineup.
Voracek’s “struggles” so far are completely overblown and are by no means any indication of what’s to come for the rest of the season. Voracek is simply dealing with some bad luck at the moment, and it is only a matter of time until some of his shots begin to find the twine. Nothing about his game has changed since his monster 2014-15 season, and there is no reason to discount another 20-goal season.
The Flyers have a few favorable games coming up against the New Jersey Devils, Buffalo Sabres and Edmonton Oilers, so if there’s a time for Voracek’s luck to catch up to him, it’s now.
