5 Players the Vancouver Canucks' Should Trade Right Now

Sedin Twins, Vancouver Canucks — The Vancouver Canucks have been reapplying Band-Aids to their roster since their appearance in the 2010-11 Stanley Cup Finals against the Boston Bruins. It is fairly evident that the team needs to rebuild and hit the reset button with how their current roster is currently constructed. The following five names should be considered in trades prior to the NHL trade deadline on February 29.

Jacob Markstrom — The goaltending has been an issue for a number of years in Vancouver since Roberto Luongo and Cory Schneider were battling for playing time. Markström was dealt to Vancouver in the Luongo deal to the Florida Panthers on March 4, 2014. Markstrom can provide some backup goaltending help, but the Canucks' netminders need a shakeup for the home team at the Rogers Arena.

Chris Higgins — Higgins has had a successful 13-year career as a player in Montreal, Calgary, Florida and with the New York Rangers. In his 14th season, he has two assists in six games. He is primarily a secondary forward on the Canucks and could be a valuable trade chip to a playoff bound team to award the Canucks with some draft picks.

Dan Hamhuis — Hamhuis has a large contract that has been tied to the Canucks since signing a six-year, $ 27 million deal in 2010. Just like with Higgins, Hamhuis does provide some veteran leadership on the blueline. He could use a change of address, and GM Jim Benning could get more draft picks for his services.

Ryan Miller — Miller signed as a free agent and hasn't really lived up to the hype he had during his time as a Buffalo Sabres goaltender. He has been known to give up some weak goals, and while it might be difficult to deal him without getting a top goaltender in return, it should be considered. The goaltending has to improve and there's no benefit to keeping him in western Canada.

1. Alex Burrows

Alex Burrows — It could be argued that Burrows has not been the same player since the glorious quest to the Stanley Cup Finals. In that season he had 48 points in 72 games and played significant minutes playing along the top forward line with Henrik and Daniel Sedin. Unless he is playing with the twins, he is just another player as he has only 72 points prior to the beginning of this season.
