The Nashville Predators are doing well, but not well enough to take the top spot in the Western Central division. It will be some time before the trade deadline rolls around, but it is absolutely worth looking at players who need to leave the Preds. By trading these players, Nashville can potentially gain a leg-up on teams like the Dallas Stars and St. Louis Blues. Here are five players who the Preds should consider trading.
5. Eric Nystrom

A hard worker, Nystrom has nevertheless been posting weak numbers as of late. In his 14 games played, he has only posted three points and currently stands at a minus-three. Even though he has the ability to be a solid two-way forward, his strength really doesn't match up to top-notch defensemen (which renders any defensive abilities useless). Some team might be able to work with Nystrom, but the Predators need players that can make big plays on a consistent basis.
4. Gabriel Bourque

Bourque has 22 games played and only four points to his stat sheet. That is hardly what a player known for aggressive forechecking and puck-handling should be posting. Additionally, Gabriel Bourque has totaled 18 PIMs this season, which have only hurt the Preds in games (there rarely is a good thing about a forward that takes frequent penalties). Maybe he is in a funk, but if Bourque cannot create plays in a consistent manner, and get his penalty minutes under control, he really needs to be traded for players who can.
3. Mike Fisher

Mike Fisher is a great center and is especially great on the penalty kill. The thing is that he is 35, and there is some concern that he is at risk of sustaining major injuries (something all veterans face). It may at first be difficult to find someone to replace his grit and hockey sense, but what good is a strong player if they are out for the season?
2. Barret Jackman

Barret Jackman is a solid defenseman, but he is letting himself lose control too often in games. Aggression in hockey is fantastic, but now that Jackman has accrued 39 PIMs this season, his aggression is only a detriment to the team. His history of shoulder injuries is also a concern as his hot-headed nature might get him into serious physical trouble. It may be time to trade Jackman for a physical defenseman who knows how to intimidate without taking too many penalties.
1. Cody Hodgson

Cody Hodgson has the ability to score, but not consistently. His 22 games played this season have produced five points. In general, consistency is a problem for Hodgson and he also tends to lack significant skating speed (essential for a scoring winger). While he is a great passer, the negatives in his play as of late really outweigh the positives.
