Ottawa Senators defenseman Erik Karlsson is just 26 years of age, but he’s clearly the best in the NHL at his position.
And his goal from a ridiculous angle against Jimmy Howard and the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday night only served to reinforce this fact.
There was the tiniest corner available and Karlsson still picked it.
How he found any daylight over Howard’s shoulder is hard to say, but somehow Karlsson managed to fit the puck between the netminder and the post before tickling the twine.
Ranked second in points and goals among defensemen while holding the top spot in assists despite playing three fewer games than the leader, it would be an outrage if anyone other than Karlsson took home the Norris Trophy for the league’s top defenseman this season.
