The only two individuals to ever bring a Stanley Cup to the Los Angeles Kings are now out of jobs, as the team announced the firings of both head coach Darryl Sutter and general manager Dean Lombardi on Tuesday.
Though surprising in terms of name value, the Kings haven’t won a playoff series since they last won the Cup and have missed the postseason two of the past three years.
In addition to these ousters, the Kings also promoted assistant general manager Rob Blake to GM while longtime business executive Luc Robitaille was named team president.
These two former NHL players certainly bring name recognition in their own right, but whether or not they can replicate the successes of their predecessors remains to be seen.
