Former Oklahoma Sooners Shine at NFL Combine
Over 300 college football players have descended on Indianapolis for the NFL combine, and among them, seven Oklahoma Sooners are trying to impress NFL scouts with their skills and talents.
So far, only offensive tackle Donald Stephenson and tight end James Hanna have gone through all the drills at the combine. Linebackers Travis Lewis and Ronnell Lewis, along with wide receiver Ryan Broyles all participated in the bench press, but none of the running drills.
Defensive end Frank Alexander and cornerback Jamell Fleming have yet to participate in any drills yet.
Stephenson impressed scouts with his 4.94 40-yard dash time, tops among all offensive linemen. However, his 19 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press left a lot to be desired. Stephenson’s strength is definitely a weakness, but his athleticism has impressed scouts.
Hanna was the top tight end in all the speed drills, highlighted by a 4.49 40-yard dash. Hanna also put up a respectable 24 reps on the bench press.
Ryan Broyles put up 21 reps in the bench press, while Travis Lewis put up 22. The closeness in those numbers is more an endorsement of Broyles’ strength rather than an indictment of Lewis’ lack of it. Ronnell Lewis led the linebackers with 36 reps.
Broyles and Fleming are the top rated Sooners out of the seven, although all are expected to go at some point in April’s draft.
