Report: USC OT Matt Kalil To Enter 2012 NFL Draft
SEATTLE (WA)– According to ESPN NFL analyst Chris Mortensen USC left tackle Matt Kalil will forgo his senior season and enter the 2012 NFL draft. At 6’7 295-pounds Kalil is projected to be a top five pick next April and could go as high as No.2 overall. Kalil informed head coach Lane Kiffin today of his decision to turn pro and not return for next season.
Kalil, a two year starter at USC received several awards and was named to the Walter Camp All-American team during the College Football Awards show. Kalil didn’t allow a sack during the 2011 season and led the USC offensive line to the lowest sack allowed total in the country.
Rated by ESPN.com Scouts Inc. as the No.2 prospect in the draft Kalil is expected to be the first offensive linemen taken in the draft ahead of Jonathan Martin (Stanford).
Kalil has NFL blood with Ryan Kalil a second-round pick in 2007 by Carolina and Frank Kalil his Father who was drafted by Buffalo in 1982.
The decision of might have an impact on Matt Barkley’s decision to enter or stay at USC for his senior season. Barkley, along with every single other underclassmen has until January 15th to declare.
