Former USC RB Dillon Baxter Done at San Diego State
San Diego State kicked running back Dillion Baxter off the team, two months after the San Diego native transferred there from Southern California. Per the San Diego Union-Tribune, the talented athlete experienced a multitude of problems which led to his exit:
According to a source, Baxter had issues with class attendance and falling asleep in study hall. He also has a baby, which added stress to his academic workload.
Yes, I imagine having a baby in your early 20′s while attempting to stay eligible, work out, earn the starting job and fulfill your hype could cause some exhaustion.
Baxter possesses a rare gift with the football in his hands but being held out of spring practice weeks after enrolling didn’t bode well for his future as an Aztec.
Head coach Rocky Long appeared willing to add him back to the roster in August but the plan obviously went awry.
His former head coach, Lane Kiffin, compared him to Reggie Bush for his skill set and hometown.
Those expectations probably didn’t help Baxter but they certainly can’t be the blame for his downfall either.
And so another name in recruiting lore, Dillon Baxter — 5-star and the top-ranked running back in the class of 2009 – disappears.
Who says you can’t go home?
Rocky Long people, that’s who.
