According to a report by his son Scott, former Penn State football coach Joe Paterno has a treatable form of lung cancer.
In a statement provided to the Associated Press by a family representative, Joe Paterno is undergoing treatment and the doctors are optimistic that he will make a full recovery.
Paterno, 84, was fired as the Penn State football coach on November 8th following multiple allegations of child sexual abuse by former Penn State defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky.
He coached the Nittany Lions’ football program from 1950 to 2011, the last 46 years as the head coach. He won two national championships and holds the NCAA Division I record for most career victories by a football coach.
