The Eagles were supposed to be loaded at the cornerback position. If that is the case, how come they allowed three touchdown passes from John Skelton?
Do not tell me it is because the Eagles are not getting pressure on the quarterback. Do not tell me it is Juan Castillo’s scheme or personnel packages. It all comes down to the palyers at this point.
Nnambi Asomugha and Asante Samuels are supposed to be all-pro calibre talents. They have not been playing at their peak all season. I admit, Juan Castillo stinks. That does not mean this secondary should give up 300+ yards to John Skelton.
I believe the players are simply mailing it in……….tuning out the coaching staff. If that is somewhat true, then they are heartless. As a professional, one should have a certain amount of pride in their work.
Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie has playhed horrible all season long. If he is playing out of position, he must make the adjustment. Other players have and the good ones thrive at it.

This is all about Castillo and his schemes. He is NOT utilizing these guys the way they need to be utilized. There are tons of examples since the start of the season but just look at what happened against the Cardinals. Only 20 out of 46 passes against Fitzgerald were covered by Asomugha. That’s less than half!. When Asomugha was actually covering Fitzgerald he shut him down. In the 4Q they had Samual on his usual left side and Asomugha on the right both covering no-name receivers. That left Fitzgerald open to go up against the likes of Jarrett and Hanson. How can you have the two top corners in the league manning a couple of below average receivers and allow the best receiver in the league to go up against our backups! It’s absurd! That’s Castillo and all Castillo. Asomugha did his job when he was matched with Fitzgerald. He should have been put in man coverage with him the ENTIRE game. No excuses. If Castillo can’t come up with a way to mesh the various talents on this defense to function properly as a team, then he needs to be fired. These Corners have proven year in and year out that they are elite athletes in this league. You can’t just say that all of a sudden three pro-bowl corners are having horribly bad years at the exact same time. No they aren’t having bad years. They are being subjuct to a clueless defensive coach who is incapable of utilizing the talent on his team and is proving historically bad at making in game adjustments to his defensive schemes to counter what the opposing offense is throwing at him. Frankly, I don’t even think Castillo would cut it as a high school defensive coach much less an NFL one, and I say that in all seriousness. This Asamugha/Fitzgerald debacle on Sunday wouldn’t be acceptable in any level of football. It’s just so basic and it’s a disgrace that we as fans have to sit here week in and week out watching pee-wee level coaching destroy a team that by all rights has enough talent to at least make it deep into the playoffs if not win a superbowl.
