I listened to the day after press conference with Andy Reid with initial apathy. Apathy then turned to pity. I honestly feel sorry for Andy Reid. One thing that Andy is known for is loyalty to his players. And that is exactly what you got early Friday afternoon.
At this point, Reid knows it is a lost season, filled with futility. What is truly clear, however, is that Andy Reid has no answer. Andy Reid cannot right this ship. For all of his turbulence in the city of Philadelphia, it has never come to this. The Eagles have quit on their head coach.
No matter what Andy Reid says, everyone saw a team mailing it in against Seattle on Thursday night. A team with no backbone. A team playing to avoid injury. A team that knows it’s season is over and has moved on. A team that has mentally checked out.
Andy Reid still stands up for his players, even though they have thrown him under the bus. I am not in the locker room. It just boggles my mind how professional athletes can quit in the midst of a season. They get paid for a reason.
Take a look at DeSean Jackson. Jackson is going through the motions and just does not give a damn. Bottom line. A once great offensive threat, now, just occupying space.
Take a look at the defense. Marshawn Lynch was made out to be Jim Brown. No one on the Eagles defense could tackle him. The effort was completely lacking. Lynch is good, he is not Walter Payton.
So, Andy Reid will continue to have the players back. Even though, it is clear, the players have turned their back on him.
