Philadelphia Eagles WR DeSean Jackson Apologizes to Fans for 2011 Season

In a move that many, including me, will find as completely pointless, Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson has apologized to the fans for allowing his contract situation to affect his performance in the 2011 season.

Jackson told reporters: “I can admit to certain things affecting me during the season. I just want to apologize. I probably could have handled it a little bit different, but now sitting here after the season’s over I can just say I was able to put it behind me and really just fight for my teammates, fight for my organization.”

He also said that he would be okay if the team chose to use the franchise tag on him for the 2012 season.

“Hey, it’d be all right. God’s got a plan, brother. I’m going to roll with it,” he said, according to CSNPhilly.com.

This season, DeSean caught 58 passes for 961 yards and four touchdowns. He led the team in receiving yards and became just the fifth receiver in league history to top 900 yards in each of his first four seasons.

But he was benched against the Arizona Cardinals for missing a mandatory team meeting the day before the game, and he was benched against the New England Patriots for dropping two touchdown passes. Against the Seattle Seahawks, he was shown on the sidelines ignoring his quarterback Vince Young, who was trying to talk to DeSean during the game.

He also turned in a dreadful season as a punt returner, averaging jut 6.7 yards per return with no touchdowns and one lost fumble.

Had Jackson played hard throughout the entire season, there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that the Philadelphia Eagles would be NFC East champions, and winners of 10 to 11 games.
